A dam is a barrier constructed to hold back water and raise its level, forming a reservoir used to generate electricity or as a water supply.
Kolol Falls and Two Rivers Dam is situated along the Eldoret – Naiberi road. It is next to Kolol Resort and among Residential houses. This is a man-made dam/waterfall constructed by the local government to control the flow of water as well as providing enough for the nearby village.

The rivers that connect to the dam are Endoroto and Ellegirini, both rivers feed into the large sosiani.This is a major source of water for thousands of homesteads. The dam is surrounded by a forest that helps in conservation of the water.

During heavy rains the level of the dam is usually high and the amount of water that overflows that overflows to the waterfall is a lot and hence the distribution of water supply to the residence is reliable.

In July 2019 the rivers which drain into two rivers dam dried up, the man-made waterfall which is normally overflowing dried too leading to major crisis. It almost lead to the dam being closed down, the drought led to crops drying due to of water. After few months without rain the dam almost dried up completely, the rains finally began the residents of the area were urged to plant indigenous trees to conserve the environment and prevent the drying up of the river in the future. Since then the dam has never gone dry without water.

The water flow in the dam has been massive and there have been many recorded cases on suicide. Some people tend to go to the dam and jump hitting the rocks and die. Due to this cases a project was established by the county government and the territory across the dam is fenced security was placed to avoid such cases from happening.

The main economic activity done in two rivers dam is fishing. Along the sides of the dam are cattail plants that grow naturally, this plant is usually cultivated by residents and its leaves are used in making mats and chairs and its its rhizomes are edible but most residents don’t eat it.


Another activity done at two rivers is bird watching, some of the common birds found here are the
Cattle egret-a small white heron about 19-21 inches in length with a wingspan of about three feet and has a short leg and thick neck.

Bronze sun bird-is a medium-sized sunbird with long, thin, well curved beak. Males have bronze-and-green iridescence, though they look black in most light.

African dater-they are large, slim water birds that measure about 80cm in length, including their long, rounded tails. They often swim with their neck above water. They have very long sharp beaks, which they use to spear their slippery fish prey.

Sacred ibis-is a large waddling bird with a long, thin down-curved black bill. The body is white all over, except for the tail and wingtips which have long black plumes. The head and neck are also black, but lack feathers. Legs and feet are black as well.
