A waterfall is a point in a river or stream where water flows over a vertical drop or series of steep drops. In Uasin Gishu County, Koromosho Waterfalls is a prominent Waterfalls. It’s also known as Umbrella Falls. The name Koromosho is a Maasai dialect, just like Uasin Gishu, and it refers to a monkey because monkeys dwell in trees. The other preferred name is chepkit a Kalenjin word that means peeping, in the case peeping down the cliff. The falls is situated about 20 kilometers to the west of Eldoret Town, where river sosiani plunges 70 meters over the granite escarpment.

Being hidden, the sound of the water is one of the feature that portrays the falls on a mass of rocks and trees.
On the rocks and part of the bushes one can be able to spot the hyrax animal also known as the dessies, they are small, and thicket herbivorous mammals (look alike like Rabbits) which like feeding on grass, fruits and insects
Koromosho falls also have a hidden enormous cave behind the falling waters. This cave is known to be a home of bats that only fly out in search of food.

The winding V-Shaped valley cut by river sosiani adds to the beauty of the scene. People go down the valley through this part to have a closer glimpse of the waterfall. During Rainy Seasons it’s advised to take caution since the Rocks tend to be Wet and Slippery. Hiking down during this season also requires shoes with a firm grip.
Upstream a dam was built to trap the water through a canal to turbines which generated electricity to the residents of Kaptinga whenever the water overflows during the heavy rains.

Looking down the cliff from the rocky flat land, all you can see is vapor as water particles are swept by the wind forming rainbow colors. The thought of sliding or jumping from the flat rocky land down the cliff is death itself, but this is what the old men in the Kalenjin community that is dominant in the area used to do literally. A ritual known as sheu used to happen many years ago, which means to jump or simply commit suicide. Life expectancy was high in the days gone by. Men who had outlived their expectations and exploited their productivity in society would voluntarily go in a group and commit suicide.
Activities that are done in koromosho are Hiking, Nature Trekking, Picnic, fishing whereby most of the locals from the area do fish at the falls. The beautiful scene formed by koromosho waterfalls has made it a key attraction site earmarked by Uasin Gishu County Government for upgrading.
